Conjunctivitis is the swelling of the conjunctiva of your eyes that leads to redness of your eyes and hence inflammation. Conjunctiva is a thin layer present just above the white part of your eye which is called as sclera. Conjunctivitis is also referred to as pink eye.

  • Wash your hands with soap after shaking hands with infected person;
  • Avoid sharing pillows, clothes, towels, contact lens containers.
  • Wash pillows, bed linens, towels in hot water.

It is suggested to stop wearing contact lenses.

Clean the sticky coatings on your eye lashes or eyelids gently with cotton.

1. WARM OR COLD COMPRESSES

This is one of the top remedy to soothe your eyes. Take a clean cloth, dip it in water and squeeze it out.  Place it on your eyes gently. You can use warm or cold water for this. Avoid handling both the eyes with the same cloth. This lowers the risk of spreading the infection from one eye to the other. Make use of a clean cloth each time you go on with a compress.  You can repeat it several times per day.

If you are suffering from allergic conjunctivitis it is better to use cold compress. And it you are suffering from infective conjunctivitis use warm compress.

2. USE SALT SOLUTION

This is another good natural home remedy for conjunctivitis. Take a teaspoon of salt in sterile water and apply to your eyes as eyewash. This is the most popular natural home remedy for conjunctivitis. Repeat it at least two times a day.

3. GET RELIEF BY USING HONEY

This natural home remedy for conjunctivitis is useful in less severe cases. Take about 3 tablespoons of raw honey and 2 cups of sterile water. Mix them. Apply it on your eyes several times a day. You can even use milk in place of water.  This is largely effective due to the antibacterial properties of honey.

4. BORIC ACID

Boric acid due to its antibacterial properties is used for treating many eye infections. You can use it by mixing it with sterile water. This is an excellent natural home remedy for conjunctivitis.

5. EYEWORT

Eyewort which is also called as eye-bright is an herb which is very effective in treating eye infections. Take a teaspoon of this herb in a cup of water and boil it. Let it cool for a while and then sieve it. Use it as at least 2 times a day.

6. POTATOES
